View Full Version : What did you get for Christmas?

Here's the "What did you get for Christmas?!" thread! :)

My son got the coolest Lego set ever: self loading logging truck! ;)

One of the attached pics shows a box of homemade wax fire-starters. It was a fun Son and Dad project, we cranked out a couple hundred and gave them away in some gift tins to friends and family. If you want to keep your four year old busy (and happy) for a hours, hand him a bucket of sawdust, dryer lint and dixie cups :)

So what did Santa bring you?

My gift was being able to spend Christmas with my son, who lives in CA, my daughter, who lives in Seattle, my cousin, who lives in Everett, and Len!

We enjoyed our Christmas feast in a common lounge type area of a high rise apartment building. A few small things were exchanged, like coffee, work gloves, and decadent chocolate. My son led grace and I shared the story of the Pastor who visited a Church the same day he was to be announced the new Pastor. He had dressed up as a homeless man, greeted the congregation at the door (shunned by all but 3), asked for change to buy food (none was given to him), entered the Church (only to be seated in the very back by an Usher), and he sat down. When the new Pastor was introduced, the congregation was shocked to see the homeless man walk to the front, take the microphone, and recite this:

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Pastor Jeremiah Steepek then relayed how he had been treated by the congregation. This brought many to shame and it likely invoked a perspective of proper discipleship. At the very least, it should have opened their eyes.

We walked around Seattle with surprisingly few others about. Here is a shot I took:

After we had our Christmas feast, Len and my cousin Dan played pool. My son, daughter, and I also played a game with pucks, and just visited with one another. Once we put away all our leftovers and cleaned up, we went on a drive to see the City lights. Our visit ended as we were dropped off at the ferry terminal. It was hard to say goodbye to them, but we were looking forward to getting home. Both of us had the same thought...drinking a tall glass of fresh spring well water (Seattle water is terrible). During our drive home, we discussed how thankful we both were for God blessing us with our property! The water taste especially good tonight...

Well ole LHN made out like a bandit this year. Got to spend the Big day with the Woman I love and the Son and mostly Daughter. It was great! Cooked a whole king crab and did way too much prime rib and it was leftover city when the dust cleared.

Lots of Christmas booty was shared all the way round but I made out like a bandit. Jake and Rebecca made a super cool wrench knife for me and the Boss made a very unphotogenic shadow box that displays my old Navy uniform. It is beautiful in person but looks kinda like a mirror to the camera.

Oh, and a dear friend sent me a new species of mushroom to try. I ate it with mixed results... More later.

Merry Christmas!

I got a rare day of peaceful communion with my daughter. It felt like old times. It was really sweet. And I probably got a few more ounces of chubbies...don't have the courage to get on the scale.

We drove up to the Ranch and had Christmas dinner with our neighbors. This morning I awoke to 19 degree temps and no water. It's frozen somewhere. Oh well, it's still a blessing to be here and reflect on the year.

My father gave me a Schrade pocketknife for Christmas when I was 16. I've carried it everyday since. It's now about warn out. So my son, daughter and wife gave me a new Schrade pocketknife for Christmas. Already cut my finger. I am a lucky man to have what I cherish most. My wife, son and my daughter back for the holidays from the University.

19 degrees? Are you still in Arizona? It's about 60 degrees here in Central New York right now and I was out doing yard work like it was early spring! My bulbs are trying to come up.

You think it is frozen somewhere???

I'm wondering if it is liquid anywhere.

great thread Mr E! thanks for starting it!
we got to spend Christmas eve and Christmas day with the people we love most. there were small children livening up the gatherings which is always a joy, lots of food to share and lots of stories to tell.

for Christmas my husband gave me a new stove. the old one has seen better days, the metal top has started separating from the metal sides! my new one is definitely a step up and lovely to behold; double oven with convection. can't wait to try it out!!

bo I hope the pipes got thawed out before something broke!

Merry Christmas to our LHBA family!

So... come visit us! 4-6 inches of rain, flooding rivers (we have 5 of them empty into the Bays), Mudslides, etc. When can you be here?? (She says in jest!)

Here is one of rockinlog's gifts. A "20 acre parcel" and some logs to play with until he gets his real ones. Boy, I am sure glad we are taking the class in Feb. lol. ;)

OK, I don't like to brag, and I hate those guys who always make out like a bandit on Christmas. Still I want to share the joy. I received a unique Christmas gift from Ellsworth as his way of apologizing for my recent failed escapade in mushroomology ( http://community.loghomebuilders.org/showthread.php?12132-Do-Not-Read-No-Log-Home-Stuff/page2&highlight=mushroom ). Prettiest mushroom you ever saw and all the tests proved it to be totally safe for human consumption. Brown spore print, adnexed veins, etc, etc. Beautiful coloring and a very firm texture. I took a video on Christmas day. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and a special load of thanks to Ellsworth.

I got a handmade blanket from my wife and 3 girls, my 5 year old wanted me to have it since I'm on the road building so much. Wanted me to have something to stay warm with and remember them by.

We've got a bill (and results) for inorganic compound water analysis for Christmas. The good news: the water IS treatable, so no need to dig another well. It'll just cost $$ to implement the treatment system... Welcome to Snohomish county :D, WA (we knew it).

I think the toy log truck for a boy is a terrific gift! When I was about 5 I badly wanted the toy building blocks constructor (comparable to Lincoln logs) for Christmas and I got it!

Mrs. Len, I wish we'd met you at a Real Estate office when we were looking for land in Sequim, WA. Great pictures!

My family moved into our Log Home on December 20th! We celebrated our first Christmas in our Log home. The day was full of fun, food, and laughter. We had 22 family and friends for the Christmas feast. After the excitement of the day had passed and the night became quiet, I had a chance to lay back in my easy chair and look up at the Ridge Pole 35' away. And you know Loghousenut, your quote from St. Teresa is right. I did shed a few tears of joy over the accomplishment of finishing this Log Home.

Congratulations on successfully occupying your newly hand made domicile. Glad you shed a few joyful tears about it but I don't think that's how the ole Saint meant that quote to be read. Just a thought... no first person knowledge on my part.

We received our
Certificate of Occupancy" permit

Also, my dad had a friend make this clock (see attached). This was made
from an original harness that my Danish immigrant Great Granparents used when
they came to Utah. It will be fitting to hang it in our log home.

Thanks Rod. It's a relief. However, we just looked at the permit
and they put my current address on it and not the cabin address.

I hope they'll change the address and keep the original 2014 date (for tax purposes).
