I've read on here in a few places that Skip would have said "Use what you got" regarding logs. I am looking at a piece of land with Sitka spruce and Western hemlock. There may be enough timber on the land for the log box if I use both types. Anyone see any problem with mixing species?

No problem.

Readyman Dan,

We could no to lengths about the different log characteristics including but not limited to: differences in length vs slope, humidity, Sao viscosity, ability to take stain and on and on..... But we build CABINS. They are made of rough imperfect logs. We even build with a combination of dry standing and freshly cut.

As Skip said: "Use what ya got."

You're not really questioning the teachings of Skip Ellsworth, are you?

When you get them all dropped, if it's not right you can always make a bunch of firewood and start over. I don't think it will happen but I just want to mention that all is not lost if your first assessment doesn't pan out. You know, it's just a bunch of logs... it's not rocket science.

Last resort, you mill it into lumber. Go for it.
