The March 2006 Issue of Structures Magazine has about 5 interrelated articles on log home and timber frame engineering. The two most important items I believe they cover are some recommended values for seismic response factor R for log walls and the limitation that log girders, rafters and beams should be sized based on the enclosed rectangle of wood not on the full round section. Share these articles with your engineer.

Hey Kids! I don't get to visit here much, but this thread caught my eye. I drilled deeper into (and vectored off from), the link provided to structuremag and came across a nice White Paper on log home Thermal Performance vs traditional Stick Frame, since the "Codes" are written for the latter.

Figured it might come in handy for someone, some time: http://loghomes.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/The-Energy-Performance-of-Log-Homes-2015-1.pdf

Cheers! / Have missed ya'll.
