Hello-

I am building an addition to my house this summer. Part of my design incorporates the use of some white oak posts to support the porch overhang. I chose the oaks which are almost 2' diameter and will be about 8-10' tall. They were girdled about a month ago.

I like the way that the roots could be flaring out at the bottom before its cut flat. I am not sure how they would be fastened to the concrete slab. Is there a preferred method for this? Also, I will be installing it green, are there any problems with this?

Thanks in advance!

Jason,
You could drill the concrete and the bottom of the post, then pin it with a piece of rebar. I'm not so sure if I'd want any wood in direct contact with concrete though. My log pillars will be sitting 3' above the ground under the roof. I live in snow country.
