View Full Version : Looking for examples of small B&P cabins

Most of the featured houses under section on B&P cabins students have built are enormous mansions (with a couple of exceptions). This is a bit perplexing to me since I understand the course teaches people to build "as small as possible." Where can I see some examples of butt and pass cabins that are more modest? As a guy with limited resources, these are the cabins I'm most interested in.

Hello Cy and welcome. There are certainly a lot of 30 x 30s on here, and many much larger than that. But there are also a lot of examples of 25x25 (I'm building one), 24x24, a 20x24 I can remember, and I think Ronnie did a 15x20 weekend getaway for a retired guy. So there are all sorts of sizes, but I think the smallest set of plans that are available (after taking the class) is still the 30x30. The great thing about this system of building is that the interior of your cabin is wide open. no load bearing walls. If you build small enough, you probably would not even need a log in the very center of the structure to support the middle of your ridge pole.

I'm thinking a lot of these photos and associated info is going to be on the members side.

Cy,
Here are some pictures of a 10x15 and a 20x15 I've built, I also just finished and sold a set of plans this morning for a 22x22. And because I see your in Nashville, I'll even throw in a picture of a 35x35 I just built outside of Nashville for good measure.

Oh, perfect! Those are exactly what I was looking for. Those are absolutely beautiful, by the way. I think they should be featured in the student log cabin sections. Who says they all have to be mansions?

I built a 10x10 shabin, for storing my tools. Now I am building 35x35 house. I am also with very limited resources.
Here are the pics. I cant imagine living in something like this year round, but you can certainly camp out for a month or two. I only store tools in mine.

Great examples, guys! Thanks for sharing.

Rockblock, is your 10x12 storage shed two stories or are my eyes playing tricks on me? That's not the front door behind the ladder is it?

That little cabin by the lake, that's the dream right there.

That little cabin by the lake, that's the dream right there.

We built the cabin before the pond was put it, we clear cut the area where the pond was going, and used all the logs to build the cabin with. The pond is cold spring fed and has been turned into a trout pond. From the water to the skillet in under 5 minutes!

I built a 24x24. Shed roof, half loft. Check out my photobuket for pics. I will add that there is a member who built a 17x17 not too far from my place.
