Hello, my name is Curt. I'm new to this forum, so I will start with why I'm interested in the LHBA. Years ago my grandfather on my moms side bought a large chunk of property here in the Snowy Range in southern Wyoming. When my mother passed away 20 years ago my sister and I inherited this property. We have a fourth acre piece by Turpin Reservoir, and a 137 acre piece on Gold Hill. I am at a point I'm my life that I am ready to start and build a cabin on the 40 acre piece. I will turn 40 in May, and would like to start before I get to old to get it done. I would have liked to gone to this November class, have already made planes to go to St. Thomas on the 16th. I have all the logs I could ever need I just need the know how now, as I have never built anything more than a Christmas tree stand out of wood. It has been a rule of mine, if I can't weld it I don't build it. So I will be looking forward to the next class, and enjoying all of your great threads in the forum. Thanks, Curt.

Welcome home Curt. Your love of iron won't deter you from building a log home to live in. There is a lot of iron that goes into one of these things and having welding or blacksmithing skills can come in handy. Think of all those brackets and hinges and extended drill bits that can be made right there at the build site. You'll fit in nicely.

PS... Yours can be pretty if you are so inclined.

Curt:
I am right next to Evanston. When you are up this way, look me up.
I am hoping to finish my build the first part of next summer.
Jason, I'm also not too far from you. I'm taking the class this weekend. Hopefully at some point, if your available I'd love to see your cabin, maybe even lend a hand.
Curt, that is some serious land. Sounds like a great opportunity. Enjoy your vaca!

That's cool country, I grew up in Baggs, and in the early 90's I worked on an oil rig just outside of Evanston. Thanks for the invite.

I'm a little jealous, Trevor.. Wish I could be there this week, but this pesky work keeps getting in the way of all the stuff I really want to do.

Welcome aboard Curt. I believe you found "home". Ask questions, pick at the brains of the folks here. Definitely definitely definitely get to class. Best money you've ever invested.

Welcome Curt, we just took the class and I must say I think it was a bit "easier" than I expected, just a little longer process. However, I may change my mind when I get to building.I don't have much building experience but am good with working with my hands so you can adapt to anything. Looks like this forum will be a great asset for help. I just wish I started at your age and I would be done by now. Nice part of the country, I hope to tour that northwest one day.

Eagle,
Don't know how old you are but I can say, there are some advantages to doing this later in life. Experience, learned patience and hopefully, time.
Good to have you onboard. This is a fun place if this is what you'd like to explore.

I'm almost 49 so I really wanted to get this done before 50 but life just seems to get in the way. important thing is I started and there is no turning back.

FWIW I think its more 'simple' than 'easy'. YMMV

Life always gets in the way. I'll be 64 in a month and I haven't placed a log yet, but I just finished my foundation, so next Spring!

It's a good forum for everything tractors as well as trailers, and a lot of other stuff. Good down to earth people, like LHBA.
