Congratulations to LHBA members Ron and Ann. Their home is the most recent recipient of the Exceptional Log Home Award.
In the early 1980s they built a 3000 square foot log home overlooking a private lake. They added 2500 square feet of sprawling deck to take maximum advantage of the private lake view -- adding a hot tub, 14 person sauna, and a glass walled cabana closer to the lake.
They did all the work themselves, including milling the oak floorboards. The logs are all cedar, carefully hand selected for minimal taper and flare. Their home has a very cool and unique gambrel roof, supported by a girder/king post system. That makes for a challenging build but yields lots of headroom on the second floor. Other neat features include a professional grade kitchen, 2 wood stoves, a lot of nice rock work, several great character logs (flared root bases), and more.
We aren't going to get this up at the current loghomebuilder.org because we plan on transitioning to a new URL sometime soon. We'll wait till the new site is up, debugged, and then post a whole gallery there. Over the next 2 weeks our daily Facebook posts will mostly be pictures of this home, stop by http://www.facebook.com/loghomeassociation to start checking it out.
