Odd as it seems I have noticed the trend to be less and less comments and feedback from the new kids on the log ..... lol ..... in last year or 2. Thankfully some of the long time members keep this side alive or I dunno ........

Hi,
I think the Newbys are trying to figure out what planet they are on now..... They are slightly overwhelmed and trying to eval how the class and butt and pass will fit into their lives.
Oh Oh we are here when they want to get in touch! :)

They are mostly over on the members side reading all the old topics-- lots of catching up to do! Some of them have been posting over there.

Ok I"m ready to see the 2013 FIRST class!! lol, Have put money away from my last two paychecks and will continue for the next couple as well. Need to have a lil egg set aside that isn't taking away from the regular family budget. I'm IN the first class of 2013!

I think what you are seeing is the result of new members spending time where the info is. After I took the class, I didn't come back to this side for months on end. Now that I'm getting close to finishing my first place and have fewer questions, I've started dropping in and seeing what's going on over here.
Although non-members may think this side of the forum is interesting, it's actually kinda boring. Because not a whole lot happens here except deciding whether or not to take the class.
Your question is kinda like asking someone who has just found the love of their life why they don't play wingman for you in singles bars anymore.

Somewhat funny and mostly right I suspect too. What happens though is the interest is either made or not, possibly some even don't pursue even as they see mainly many posters who _ THANKFULLY I will add _ put in the time and effort to keep this side alive and kicking. Without this and generating new belief and encouragement to the maybe be's it would be a closed "society" and likely in time may cease to even draw in new members.
I always looked forward to the newbs putting up comments after the class as it was re-affirmation that things indeed are good and the excitement continued to grow. It is not a simple nor easy journey or everyone would be built and moved in in months vs the years that are common.
Happy to see you posting here now, today. More occaissonally doing so, especially the newbs, is a good thing. A very good thing. ;)

I don't know JJ JR. seems like there was no problem with new folks finding out about and taking the class for MANY years when there was no such thing as this electronic forum :)

I'm kinda halfway on Jr's side. While I really like reading the newbies first postings on the member's side, I also think it would encourage the lookie's on the non-member's side to hear how things feel the week after class. It must look a bit like a bottomless mouse trap... They go in, but they never come out.
I reread some of my posts on this side and I realize that I act a bit like the shill at an auction who bids and bids and bids and whatever he buys magically reappears at next weeks auction. The lookies don't realize that almost everyone becomes a fanatic soon after class.
Speaking of auctions, that's how I learned about Skip's class back in the dark ages before the internet. I saw a mimeographed flyer at the local auction sale. It was a local NW thing back then and all the students either saw a flyer, or took the class at college, or heard about it by word of mouth. I think that word of mouth thing was what got most of them. There's something enticing and titillating about someone you know saying "Hey Dude, you just gotta take this class I just went to... Some really old guy is sharing all his loghousebuilding secrets before he takes them to the grave!"
The internet is GREAT, and a good website can really create a buzz, but word of mouth has a grab to it that is hard to replace. Since we can't shift this thing back 30 years to a time when it was all local, I'm thinking we have to get that word of mouth thing whenever we can get it. Tell your friends about it... Even if you've never met them.
PS.... As usual, no connection other that being a worn out old student who is building his Wife's dream home.
