I always leave the jack under the vehicle, in addition to the jack stands, of in underneath.

Sometimes if it's a long project I'll roll the wheels/tires under the frame too

I bought a closet full of them at a yard sale some years back. It was about 130 or so of them. There were some antiques in the bunch too.
