    this is in response to your questions regarding models in the 'Tipi' thread.

    your floor joists can be as far apart as you like, but the decking has to be able to take the moment of the 40#/SF you put on it.

    Same for your rafters, even if you have no snow load, you should design to a minimum of 25#/SF.

    For a shed, I don't think you need a permit for less than 200 sf where you live (here it is 120 SF). I built a shed with a steep pitch roof (stick frame). I used 2x6s on 16" centers + 1/2" ply sheathing. Total span of 5' (10x12 shed).

    Thanks for the info stressman. My handle could have been stressman, but more for personal circumstance than for math and engineering skills.
