Log cabin structural question

Good day everyone
I moved into a 78' log cabin on a cmu perimeter footing with dry packed 6x6 posts supporting the interior footprint of our home.
We want to relocate our ladder to the loft to an actual staircase that will cut between the support beams keeping our home from spreading apart. The question is I have a total of 4 support beams holding the loft up and the house together, and between only 2 of the beams is a 4x4 that is through-bolted and laying on top of the carpet. Now it is running parallel to the roof beams but perpindicular to the support beams.
Is this actually structural? I can not figure out if it is, but it is through- bolted... So that means something?
Any help would be appreciated.
