How many people are living in <20x20 log homes?

Ive been looking at cabins and whatnot and have seen a few that looked less that 20x20 maybe even 15 by 15 and i said you know what, i could probably comfortably live in that as long as it had a basement.

Welcome. I don't think there are many here that are living full-time in houses that size, but there are definitely some that were built that small.

I'm building a 25x25, full basement, and 1/2 loft. A mansion compared to some homes/apartments, and easily big enough for a family of 4-6. That would be small bedrooms, and kids doubled-up, but do-able.

How many in your family? you have land and thinking of building your own?

I've built as small as a 10x15, wouldn't want to be there full time, but if I we're single I've built some 20x15 that wouldn't be terrible to live in

Our first place was 30x30 with 3/4 second floor, it was too big for me personally but that's what my wife wanted.

If it was up to me, this next one we are getting ready to build would be sub 25x25 with maybe a 1/2 loft for extra sleeping areas & storage.

I think I would have gone for a 25X25 except my wife wanted 40X40, so we compromised at 32X32.

It would just be myself and a dog (once i have completed building), i just recently stayed in a homewood suites for work, couldnt have been more than 20x14, had everything i needed. I would probably do a half second floor for a "bedroom" and also a basement. I think 20x24 would be perfect. Or something along those lines.

All that free LHBA advice and you answer the question all by yourself. Next time Bo and I are gonna do a thread hijack about how he burned down Mrs. Swacey's barn while learning how to smoke rabbit pellets with Sara Covington.

There you go again. That’s another one of those “you promised never to tell” things.

If and when I ever start my cabin, I would likely build something smaller, say 20x20. With a small loft, that would be perfect for me and maybe a dog and a cat. I like small, cozy spaces -- I'm digging this new "tiny house" movement -- and a two-story 35x35 home just seems too big for little ol' me.

I just wanted to hear from people who have, I was only in it for 4 days but it seemed to be enough!

We will be living in a 26x28 above the garage this summer before starting on the house. Should be fun!

Look back at how our Grandparents lived when they was kids. A 20x20 with modern heat and electricity would have seemed like a palace to my Grandma. She lived in a tenthouse down near the dump (where the Mall is nowadays) til the year she went to school. Yet, she always talked about it like it was normal and she had a good time.

We're all rooting for "when", not "if", just saying... But I've got way too many hobbies for the tiny house movement....and too many kids. pick your poison.....

Of course, if you decide to add on later, you can add a wrap around porch, and then frame it in. That's one of the beauties of this method- you have a lot more options on where to put things after the fact like doors and windows than you do with a framed home.

I dunno, 40x40 with a full drive-under shop / basement sounds about right to me...

Of course the wife, 4 kids, and dog are probably going to want to come over sometimes so it might get a little cramped.

24 x 24 here - getaway cabin. Easy to clean and keeps visitors to short stays.

I'm building my detached 36x45 garage this summer, with slab heat hooked up to an outdoor wood boiler....with a car lift I bartered with Dan in Colorado for....can't wait to work on projects in a t shirt while it's 20 degrees outside.

Is it bad that at first glance I didn't realize I had built that? I started looking and was like "that looks an awful like Gina's place"...

    This is my jealous face.

Is it bad that I've looked at other lifts, despite having no place to put one right now?

My buddy Ellery is trying to push one towards me. He gets all his expensive stuff from the lab at the college he works at....has a $50,000 (for real) 1" thick 4'x8' steel machine table in the garage at his house that the college was just going to throw away.....along with a hydraulic lift in his driveway....that they were also throwing away....

Ronnie - You just didn't recognize the man in the photo. That's what threw you off. After I (on my own!) peeled every log in that thing this summer, hubby DID show up to chink the place. (I still think I drew the short straw....)

But then I couldn't store other stuff that would otherwise be in the way! What if a nice big lathe or mill show up at a "Dan Price?" These are important considerations.
