    Upcoming February 2017 LHBA class

Signed up for the February 18th & 19th LHBA class in Vegas as a refresher (went to class back in 2008 and am starting build next summer). Wondering who else will be attending and from where? Sign up quick as they normally get filled pretty fast. Great class, you won't regret it! Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Hoping to take a friend also. Had another buddy who's a GC that wanted to go but schedule clashed with his work. Still looking for more recruits!

My wife and I will be there. I have followed this site in times past. Want to start build (footings) next year with the shell in 18 (for the garage). Need a place for crashing, storage and tools before the "cabin" build as my wife calls it....A cabin with 2 downstairs large bedrooms and a loft with additional space.....Doesn't sound like a cabin to me.
Thanks for reading. Will be glad to make new friends as we prepare on this journey.

BTW how do we post pics?

He went to Kindergarten 3Xs also. I don't know which he got the most from.
He plays well with others, so I'm thinking it's the Kindergarten.

Working on lodging for the class weekend. Anyone found reasonable accommodations? Looking forward to obtaining access to the private side.... Any words of wisdom are appreciated. Experiances etc.

I haven't found anything super affordable just yet. I am holding off until closer to the class to see if prices go down. Really just depends on your preferences. Planet Hollywood is one of the more expensive hotels right now but would be much more convenient for class.

The wife is going on about free plans for cabins/garage.... I told her she didn't know what she doesn't know. Yeah I did. I can't wait for her to go as she will realize the work involved. What I wanted to ask was about the plans that LHBA has available. Are they only available when taking this class? Or can they be purchased on the private side? If so is there plans for a garage? That is what we will be starting for the known reasons already been discussed on this forum. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom and recommendations. ... this includes the several PMS that I've sent around to various members. It is appreciated.

Since I can't edit. The wife was looking at FREE plans.... As I was referring to the cost of the plans that would be available at the class. Why buy when u can use free? =)

    I know I know.

  15. #15
hi there. the plans are only available after taking the class. the plans are not available on the private side. you can buy them immediately following class usually for a steep discount, or buy them latter at the members store. your choice!

we started with the garage too. it was great making our newbie mistakes on something other than our cabin!

Pip... Trust me... Take the class. The plans will be a bargain and it'll all make sense.

The Boss and I are most of the way through our build. I was too "smart" to use the LHBA plans. Instead, I hired the architect who drew the LHBA plans to draw us a set of semi-custom plans for twice the price of the LHBA plans. The plans are fine, but as we move along toward completion, we find ourselves changing things to more match the LHBA plans. I wish we had just gone with the LHBA plans. Yes, there is a garage plan.

PS... All those free plans are just fine and worth every nickel.

This was my point.... I guess I have dry sense of humor.....

And we are enrolled for the Feb class...Cant wait... For us BOTH to go

We are starting with a garage as it will be easier (to learn on??) and we will need the storage and a place to crash when building.....

I meant to ask about the ability to purchase garage plans at and after the class and if it would be at the same price. I didn't know if there was a certain time limit (opportunity to purchase)?

    Thank you.

The plans are a bargain at full price but there's a good discount on the plans for a month or so after class.

There is also often a deal to buy the whole set of plans, from the garage up through big, tall houses for a decent price. I have them sitting next to me and they are worth every penny, even though I am using "custom" plans--mostly LHBA stock but with things removed. My main floor will have 3 walls in it, only 21 linear feet or so.

I would buy the full set when you can get them at the discount, because then you will have all of them if you change you mind on things later.

That does bring the open floor plan concept to a whole new level.

Has there been any others still out there looking at/for lodging arrangements? What have you found? is it best to wait till prices drop? Or will the lodging just increase?

I have not booked yet, hoping prices will go down, I would prefer to stay where the class is which is Planet Hollywood but that's one of the more expensive hotels that weekend. However it seems that since I started looking at hotels about a month ago prices are slowly dropping. If all else fails I will pay the going rate but I am going to give it until mid/late December before I lock anything down. That being said, if you book a hotel and see something cheaper you can always cancel and rebook. Just make sure you don't get one of those advance rates that are cheap but don't let you cancel without a penalty.

My husband and I are signed up for February and are staying at Harrah's. It's a few hotels down from the class, but it seemed the closer you got toward the MGM, the higher the rates. I belong to the Harrah's/Ceasar's Total Rewards club thingie and got a really good rate. Without logging in as a member, I checked Harrah's rates and right now, the lowest is $94/night for a king size bed. If anyone stays at Harrah's or some of the other casinos on that side of the strip (Harrah's, Paris, Bally's, etc), you can take the monorail to class. It runs and stops behind Harrah's, Flamingo, Ballys/Paris, and MGM Grand. You can go to lvmonorail.com to view the map and prebuy tickets. A two day unlimited pass is $22 - probably cheaper than a cab. The monorail runs from 07AM to 3 AM weekends.

The folks in Vegas must have a good idea of how awesome the LHBA class is. The last class I thought about attending was at Harrah's and the prices at Harrah's were higher, and now that its at Planet Hollywood, Harrah's is cheap and Planet Hollywood is expensive. Regardless it sounds like it is worth it and I can't wait! I have been lurking for almost a year now and have slowly been paying down debt to get ready to live the life I want to live. Can't wait to meet everyone at class!

I can't wait. I am signed up and have my flight/hotel accommodations covered. I've been planning and wanting to take this class for years. When I first became interested in building Skip was still teaching the class at his home and you could camp out. While I am not a fan of Vegas I will deal with it to attend this class. Looking forward to meeting everyone who is coming. See you in February!

Eric, you're a smart man. Waiting all these years to take the class will save you all the extra effort of using lifting poles.

If you don't know what I am talking about, ask when you get to class.

    Welcome aboard...... finally.
