I've always wanted a weekend getaway place/hunting cabin. My family owns property about 60 miles south of home, so it is jut the right distance away.
While researching cabins on the internet, and considering a timber-frame home, I luckily ran across this website in Nov 2010. After a couple of months, and much reading on the public side of the forums, my wife and I decided I should take the class. So I did Labor Day weekend 2011.
I'm thinking if this cabin build goes well (hope to start during 2012 on well, electrical supply and foundation), I might consider building a small home (30x30 w/ loft plus basement) in about the year 2020. Sell the traditional house and maybe retire a bit early.
So far, I've acquired the bulk of the power tools needed. I've also acquired an adiction to the "materials" listing on Craigslist. I've bought some fasteners, lumber.
