  1. Canceled Land Deal

by , 10-02-2013 at 06:33 AM (Nothing Worthwhile is Easy)
It turns out that the property we were about to close on is considered "Zone A - Unstudied" by FEMA. Wasn't sure what that would mean for us, so I started to research it. After discussions with the village zoning guy, and the village engineer we were advised not to make any assumptions and to hire an engineer to map out the present elevations of the land to see how they compared to their "guess" of what the floodplain elevation is. $850 later, the elevations are all way too close ...

It was beautiful! We can picture the perfect place for our homestead on this property. Nestled between 3 Bur Oaks up on a hill overlooking Eagle Creek. We will see how it goes and will keep you posted! Here are some pictures...

  3. Motivated By Fellow Members

We don't have land yet, but gaining experience while helping other members is our focus in the meanwile. It is so exciting to see up close what others are accomplishing. Almost unreal.

Last month, Jared and I went up to see TJMash. It is one thing to learn about the LHBA building method, but it is another to see this method in progress! We were very impressed with what they've got done (and just the two of them!). I hope we can make it up to help them along the way.

  4. Our current house and trees...

by , 03-14-2013 at 05:56 AM (Nothing Worthwhile is Easy)
After the sale of our current home, 'Big Business' is willing to have us stay as renters for a discounted rate.

As part of the sale of the property, we were trying to work in "Timber Rights" but it looks like they are not going to OK that in the deal. To make it up to us they are looking at lowering our ...

  5. We start here...

by , 03-14-2013 at 04:40 AM (Nothing Worthwhile is Easy)
This may be the biggest project we will ever tackle together. We aren't builders. We don't know any builders. Most of our friends and family don't believe we can do it. If they took the class they might think differently. The class was packed with valuable info and the members forum is priceless!

Just 5 months ago, we had no thought of moving from our current home. Big Business behind us is buying up the houses on our street at "fair market" prices. Not ripping us off/ no ...
