Wood gasification

I've been tooling around on the GEK site regarding their wood gasification kits. I was wondering if anyone here has built a full production unit? I'd like to explore the possibility of running an internal combustion engine off wood. I've seen it done by a number of different people, and it was almost common in europe during world war 2. Anybody got any guidance?

Plenty of information out there, BUT don't expect to have a long range.
Works best when gasoline is no longer available or the price of gas is
prohibitive.

I'm getting ready to use a gassifier to heat my guest house. I already
have a pair of gassifiers for cooking and heating water. So far I've been
very impressed.
