As most of you are aware, things have been getting bad in this
country and will be getting worse. For those who do plan to be
prapared (or just enjoy camping) I have come across a fantastic
multipurpose lamp. These have been in production for many
decades. The lamps can:
*Depending on model, provide maximum light equal to a 150 watt or
400 watt incandescent light bulb
* Run on diesel, biodiesel, vegitable oil, kerosine, naptha (white gas)
or several types of alcohols.
* With a gimble can be mounted to a wall.
*Act as a spotlight with the rear reflector.
*Act as a reading lamp with upper reflector.
*Act as a flourescent light (up to 30' long!) with the rear reflector and
3M light tube
*Heat food with the burner attachment while still providing light.
*Think I also saw a space heater attachment for this lamp but not
totally sure.
*Can be pumped by hand or with a footpump or compressor.
*Aftermarket market adapters will provide for a 14 x 14 x 5" oven
and pressurized hot water for a shower or sink while still providing
light at the same time. No need to take a shower in the dark!
There is also a separate cook stove. From what I understand they
are hard to clog or foul, and will operate on most any grade of
fuel.
About the only thing the Petromax is not able to do is run on
unleaded gasoline. Looks like we've come a long ways from
the old single purpose Coleman lanterns we used back in the
'50's and '60's.
I found the best prices to be at Geniol USA or geniolusa. (Web search)The reconditioned lamps are about $99.95. Tried Ebay. Fierce bidding
and high prices on used lamps. Haven't bought one yet but plan to
buy at least one with a whole lot of options. I'm still in the camping
out phase while building my place and I know a warm shower will be wonderful.
