If you are a member of The Log Home Builder's Association of North America (meaning you have taken one of our classes) you can get into the member's area just by asking.

Just follow the instructions at http://www.loghomebuilders.org/members-forum-access

I wondered why I'd been "downgraded" from "Certified Log Home Builder" to a mere "new member".

Nothing.

But you're not a "new member" anymore. Now you're a "Member". Look at your signature. 8)

We had originally intended the members to get a special note on their account that said "Certified Log Home Builder" under their name when they posted, but that proved to be technically too difficult to manage.

So you guys can build a home out of a coupla trees but you can't figure out phpBB?

(Note to self: don't take advice from roughnecks when concerning matters about the internet.)

Hey Steve, I just found this site and have read almost every page of the website (not the forums yet :) ) I know the member section is for those who have taken the class but could you set up a way for those of us who are waiting to take the class a way to read the member section (and not be able to post)?

Heya Steve, welcome to the forums and the Association. ;)

Technologically speaking, there probably is a way to set that up. However, that would not account for the amount of administration time that would be required (keeping track of who gets what access level). We're a very small association and everyone here wears 20-30 hats on the good days. ;)

So please have patience. I know it's hard, but it will be worth it in the end. ;)

Now if we could convince some other "Professional Engineers" who like to work with log homes to take the class I wouldn't feel so lonely being the only one with my title in the forum. Oh well I guess that makes me "Special".

Steve,

Any chance of offering an online seminar? :)

There has been a new wave of online education covering GED's to masters degrees.. I can even do my CE (continuing education) classes online.

..food fer' thought.

At this point we have no plans for an online class. I realize that it would be more "econmically efficient" for many people, but the technology simply isn't there to get the feeling for how things need to be done.... maybe in another 5 or 10 years. ;)

This coming from a guy with a software development background....

I researched this site a while back, and at the time it was much different and there was only access to 1 class this year, as I see now their might be another one in NC or SC , if so where do I go on this site to register and become a member???

Yup, our site changed just a little bit, well, maybe a lot ;)

Our classes are in Monroe Washington.? We don't currently have a class scheduled, but?we'll probably post a class date soon.

Information about the the class and memberships in the Association can be found at:

http://www.loghomebuilders.org/categories/about-us/about-our-class

http://www.loghomebuilders.org/categories/about-us/about-log-home-builders-association

If you have questions about the class or memberships that aren't answered by the articles in those two areas, then feel free to email?us and someone will answer them.

I have been viewing the web site for over 2 years now, and am finally able to afford the next class whenever it is.

We own 40 acres of land in the center of colorado. Not a single tree or bush or shrub on it, but lots of roaming rancher cows and their little gifts they leave everywhere. (did i say little?) We obtained a permit from the forest service to cut standing dead lodgepole pine, actually lightly toasted trees from the Haymen Fire of 2002. We have been cutting, limbing, hauling and unloading the trees from the forest to our land, for a year now. Significantly more work ( and bugs) than I had planned on. We can hardly wait to get into the next class and start finalizing our 3 years worth of idea gathering.
Our land has no options for utilities, so we will be 100% au natural. The adventure continues.....

CO2, are you planning on attending the class this month? My husband and I are attending, and it would be nice to meet you, as we are from neighboring states. We were going to look into some CO logs for our home and neither of us have done much building, if you start your project before we do, which is likely, because we have a whole bunch of those cow critters leaving big gifts all over our property that are going to start giving birth to little cow critters soon, also......anyway if you start your project and could use a hand, we could probably arrange that and would like the experience...the offer would extend the other way if we happen to start ahead of you.

Hope to keep in touch,

Erin

Tommie, sign up for the email alert. You will be notified when a class opens up before there's an announcement on the web site.

It worked out great for me!

Hello LHBA Members,
I'm hoping to get some help on getting into the members section. I took the course in 2000, I don't remember if it was spring or fall (memory is not what it used to be) and I've requested several times over the last couple years to be added to the members section with no response from LHBA. Maybe they're having difficulty looking up my membership so I'm hoping someone that took that class will remember the dates. Skip had just flown in from the Phillipines with Elvie and Chip was about 5 years old. Skip was missing a front tooth that was knocked out in a fight with several Filipinos over his watch, and had not had time before his flight to get it repaired.
I'm finally getting ready to design and build my log home, and would greatly benefit from access to the members section.
Any suggestions or help on this would be greatly appreciated,
Wade

I remember the story about the fight over the Rolex.

"Skip was missing a front tooth that was knocked out in a fight with several Filipinos over his watch, and had not had time before his flight to get it repaired."

Do you remember the night when there was an "intruder alert"?

what if you have never taken a class?

Then you get to read the general forums. The members section is for members who have taken the course.

there's some great info in the general forums, but the only way to get to the member forums is to take the class.

You gotta be family to get the intimate details and family secrets of building a Log Home. Joining this family has a lot of benefits. You will only hear that from family members.

Wade, any luck hearing back on this? I'm in the same boat, took the class (my wife too) back in the 90's. I've inquired about how to be recognized as a member, but no response. I'd love to be able to take advantage of the members section, hopefully I can make that happen.
